The
Riverside Church of Christ in Moshi Tanzania dedicated Immanueli Laurenti
Msangi (pictured, by Charles Ngoje) as their pulpit minister
in a ceremony held at the church on Sunday 20, 2012. Immanuel has been a member
of the church for five years. Riverside Church has a membership of 45
adults. I was in Moshi to witness
this important exercise in the life of the 13 year old congregation at the foot
of Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak. This congregation was planted by veteran
missionary Ken and Ann Bolden in partnership with Charles and Florence Ngoje,
Mark and Eunice Sure and Ryan and Lynda Hammitt. With this appointment the
Church has made a significant step towards turning their hopes from the
missionaries to themselves as Tanzanian nationals. Ken Ngoje who has been the
only remaining missionary at this church will be phasing out of Tanzania to go
back to his home in Winyo Kenya, in a
month’s time. Immanueli takes over this mantle from Godlisten Masuki who will now serve full time as director for Ghona Academy a ministry of the Church.
